The journey so far -Rukus Regardless
Late 70′s baby from Hyson Green Nottingham. This culturally diverse area in the heart of notts was and still is a hot bed for urban talent ranging from graff art and dancing to sports and rappin’. Late 80′s and I had developed performing and writing skills recognised by local arts councils and in 1990 was selected by the legendary Benjamin Zephania as an ‘exceptional’ young poet.
Early 90′s as an aspiring ragga mc performing at the local yout, club my ear was drifting to a more uk/local dance scene(s), from acid house/rave deephouse into the hardcore era. During much of the 90′s i hooked up with dj Dynamic a then prominant young dj and one half of Dynamic and (the now named) Rukus. the mid 90′s brought me a couple radio residency slots on Power fm and Scene fm. over a couple of years i had mc’d most clubs this side of the midlands with dynamic.
The sound was again evolving and we were avid supporters artists and performers of the emerging Drum N Bass scene, pioneered by LTJ bukem and MC Conrad on the rave circuit. 1998 – 2005 listenin hard and expanding my writing skills the legendary rawkus click were very inspirational in my writing over classic hip hop beats. it was during the noughties were mc Rukus as a hip hop artist was recoined Rukus Regardless. Earliest work was a code of practise mix tape recordings with Shida Genius, and the Theorist. Living in luton i made some good connections with the like s of L towns own Phi life Cypher and Londons Choong Fam.
In 2005 WEIGHT BENCH was born. Concieved in the back of a famous red golf dec 2005 on the way to Radio 1 xtra Marble arch studios. Cappo (the condor) and the Theorist were promoting the GET OUT on Excalibur’s show tales from the legends and rukus regardless got his first national radio airing and so did the WB stamp. 2005 – string of mixtapes ep’s performaces and tours and we be back performing dnb with out much further ado…..
